COESSING 2025 — Celebrating 10 Years
The Coastal Ocean Environment Summer School in Nigeria and Ghana (COESSING) 2025 took place at the University of Ghana, Legon, from August 11–15, 2025, marking its 10-year anniversary. Themed “Celebrating a Decade of Empowering Excellence in African Coastal and Ocean Studies,” the program brought together students, early-career researchers, and international experts to strengthen skills in oceanography, data analysis, fieldwork, and programming.
Highlights included hands-on labs, field trips, tutorials in Python, and networking sessions from the five project groups with participants from across West Africa and beyond.

Supported by partners such as the Ocean Margins Initiative, COESSING continues to expand capacity in marine and coastal science, ensuring African voices play a stronger role in global ocean research and policy.
